“AHHHHHHHHH!!!” The scream from the castle could be heard all around the kingdom of Everglow. Curtains rustled as people looked to see what was happening.
“Is the countess OK?” One villager asked.
“Someone must go check on her!” Another replied.
Over by a tree, two young boys overheard this exchange and glanced at each other. The boys’ names were Scout Rockford and Zach Robenson. They were best friends and even had a detective club together. They solved crimes around their kingdom. Because of that, they were admired everywhere.
“Looks like we’re on the case again.” Zach told his friend.
“Wait. Isn’t it the countess's daughter’s birthday today?” Scout’s eyes widened. “What if something happened there? We got to go!”
Scout and Zach ran uphill towards the castle. By the time they arrived, the guards were running around, the countess was shouting orders, and the countess’s daughter was crying.
“Countess, what happened?” Scout hurriedly asked.
“Oh, Scout and Zach, we were celebrating my daughter’s birthday party in the abandoned library when the lights suddenly turned off. There was a loud explosion and when the lights turned on again, my daughter’s favorite balloons were missing!” Countess Zsa Zsa McSnooty explained in a rush.
Zach smacked his head in utter disbelief. Scout sighed.
“I can’t believe we ran UPHILL just for this. I thought someone was hurt!” Zach muttered to Scout.
