Sonnet

Note: This poem is based on the book Farewell to Manzanar

At Manzanar, the sun would shine so bright

But sadness loomed over the camp where people stayed

They missed their homes, and may have felt fright

Together, they pushed through the dark and shade

The wind would murmur stories of the past

Of the happy times they would love to see

Though times were tough, their love would hold them fast

In the little things, they found joy and glee

The smell of rice would fill the air around

As kids would play and laugh without a care

They made new friends, their strength being their ground

With much hope and love, they learned how to share

Even when memories would bring them so low

Their hearts were strong, and their hope would always grow
