Note: This poem is based on the book Farewell to Manzanar
In Manzanar, the sun is bright
But the shadows in the darkness make us frown
We miss our homes, but that’s alright
Because with each other, we won’t drown
We packed our bags and left so fast
Barely had any time when trouble came around
But side by side, we had a blast
In this new place that we found
The winds would howl, and mainly blow
But we would continue to dance and sing
With games and jokes, we’d laugh and grow
And make this camp feel like spring
Though missing home would make us sad
We’d find joy in each passing day
With hope and love, we’re never bad
In Manzanar, we’re here to stay
