Lyric Poem

Note: This poem is based on the book Farewell to Manzanar

In the camp where our dreams faded away

Families lost homes, their hearts in dismay

Barbed wire surrounds us, locking us in a prison of fear

We mourn what we lost, the things we held near

The memories linger, we feel their dying embrace

Now we find comfort in an empty space

The laughter of children, now whispers of pain

In a place that feels lonely, with nothing to gain

We remember the gardens, the sun shining bright

Now, the shadows of grief fill up our night

But deep in our hearts, love will always stay

Though we’ve lost so much, it won’t fade away

Through memories we carry, we learn to be strong

Together, we’ll carry our past as we long

For loss is a part of the journey that we take

In the hearts of each family, new hope we will make
